Pumpkin shirt

10/27/08
well, my bike is in the shop finally, getting fixed. it should be done this week, which is nice, because although the beach cruiser is a good ride, it is really hard to pedal especially uphill, which is the way that we have to go to get into the good spots of our area. ill be back onto a mountain bike so i can mess around in first gear again, the only bad part is the way the elder before had it set up was for a big fat kid, so its kind of uncomfortable for me to ride. my butt is up higher than my hands are, so its like im about to fall forward when i get on. oh well. when we asked cheryl if we could help her out with anything (the standard thing to ask as we leave an appointment) she asked if one of us was handy with a hammer and nails, so i said yes, i am. anyway, long story short, im building a huge wheelchair ramp to her door so her mother can come stay with her. im looking forward to hit, havent pounded a nail in 6 months. transfers is in 2 days, but its almost certain that elder espindola and i are staying together, which is good, we do really well together. we have had some good success already, so next transfer we can have some more. bike elder is the way to be, i dig it. the only bad part is we have to do what ever the DL wants on pday because we cant drive to go get food or to the buildings we meet at. other than that, its great. its fun to ride a bike again, but it makes me miss my haro (the one that got stolen) thats why i was contemplating buying another so i could ride it when i got back. but im going to stay with the one i have, so dont worry about anything like that. yesterday we went to an appointment we had set with a family because they were busy when we talked to them the first time, so when we went back, chivas and C.A. were playing and they had a carne asada going on. they gave us a bunch of food, which was so good its unbelievable and we met a bunch of their friends and a guy who was baptized in mexico, as he told us, when he was 6 or 7. they had this chile pica their which they told us we had to try so we slathered our rice in it and ate it. elder espindola cant handle la picosa at all, so his eyes started watering and he was putting down drink after drink. it made my mouth and throat burn, but was actually quite tasty. i think my taste buds are either dying or something or im acclimating to the food because it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. then they told us it was habanero chile. they all thought it was funny that they white boy didnt burn but the brown one was dying. they didnt think i could eat more so they gave me another tortilla to eat and i ate a tortilla with just habanero salsa. they thought that was great (they were a little drunk) but they all invited us over to their house again so we set it up. we didnt teach them anything because its slightly pointless to teach a drunk mexican anything. chivas won. latins are more awesome than most white people, especially when they drink a little, but not too much, then its not awesome any more. we havent had any white people ask us to eat with them, but those mexicanos thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. papa smurf, it was your birthday last week, no? one more year and you are f-f-fi-f-fif... half a century old! congratulations, and happy birthday.

something i forgot to add: on friday, the ward had their primary halloween party with the 3rd ward (we are the 1st) so we went their to get food and donuts. there was a raffle for a few pumpkins, only the kids and the missionaries were allowed to enter, and i won the grand prize! it was this pumpking that is almost 3 feet tall and wheighed like 45 lbs. it was funny as everyone left the church and honked as they drove by, becuase i was riding my bike with this baby whale of a pumpkin on my shoulder. its a good thing we are only a half mile from the church. im going to carve it at dinner on thursday and put it out for halloween. its big enough that i could carve arm holes and wear it, but it might get my shirt dirty. ok, thats what i forgot to say, bye
