howdy. mom, to answer your question, no, elder halls isnt my companion. he hasnt been for 3 months now, and im not in the same area, i left 3 months ago. gina, this is my first little mexico. all the other ones were rich white peepuhls, except MLK, which was little africa. african shops lined the streets and there were only 2 white people there. here in HP is little mexico. im leaving in a week to south central.
a week-ish ago, elder tuttle and i were looking for an apartment for new missionaries so we went to talk to the manager of one. we knocked on the ghetto door, the normal one already open. we could see the people inside, could hear the TV, voices, everything. they saw us and all got up and left because they saw missionaries. elder tuttle still isnt quite used to how people respond to missionaries knocking on their door, he thinks theyre just not home, so i told him to wait and see if she would answer. we knocked and knocked and called in and everything, and no one answered us for 5 minutes. then i said, " were looking for the manager for the apartment for rent" and without hesitation the lady opened the door and came out.
i had an entire large pizza for dinner one night. and used most of a bottle of hot sauce on it. delicious.
a couple weeks ago i drew up a rough draft for the Huntington Park Zone. us 8 elders (6 HP and 2 at USC) have split from our mother zone, Central, and formed our own zone. we hold weekly zone meetings like normal, have zone p-days, like normal, we even made a copy of the declaration i wrote (the original is on a yellow napkin from wendys) and sent it to president. we are thinking about annexing the koreatown elders, and will be getting at least 2 more new ones next transfer. our declaration is signed by all the current missionaries, and we uphold our freedom. The Central zls have tried to force us back into their zone, but have little power to enforce any of their idle threats. Elder porter (central ZL) has declared war. so be it. Viva HP Zone!

B gets some culture
hi. no baptisms on sunday. mom still wont let them.
so we were on the lookout for apartments one day, driving around and calling numbers, and we were on a pretty large street, passing a bus stop and sure nuff, some homeless dude with no shirt was there with dropped trou and taking a wizz right there at the bus stop. just standing there peeing at the road. pretty cool.
mexico won another game. streets closed down. flags flew. crowds thronged the streets. we had to drive all the way into southgate to find a road to get across the closed streets. too us 35 minutes to get to our house, which was only 7-ish blocks away.
we had PEC on sunday, the one were the elders quorum pres, RS pres, high priest GL, YM and YW prez, primary, etc, basically anyone with a calling, is supposed to show up. there were 6 missionaries, the bishop and his 2nd counselor. who knows...
we were in an apartment building going to visit some dude and as we walked down the hall, we stumbled upon a man in his wheelchair snoozing away in the middle of the hall. we tried to be quiet, but when elder tuttle opened my backpack to get my camera so i could take a picture, he woke up. it was the dude we were looking for.
played some classic mexican games a few days ago with one of the families we are teaching, marbles in the dirt, some sort of top thingy, etc. it was pretty cool to get some real culture, not spangish style.

B makes plans to be a loser
8/31/09
its hot. this is day number 4 that it has hit 102. and humidity. ive become accostumed to it, i dont even sweat any more. just my butt. i dont know when my release date is, but according to the ordained minister card signed by pres. hinckley that they gave me in the mtc its feb 3rd. i wont get flight plans for 2 more transfers probably. do you all realize i still have a long time to go? a few transfers ago i started thinking, man, im going home soon, but ya, no. ive still got 6 months.
i had a baptism in jefferson park yesterday, and next week ive got 3 more. elder halls and i taught a ton of people that couldnt get baptised for various reasons, but now they have gotten everything taken care of. this is the right way to do things. teach them everything then leave just before they get baptised so i dont have to do all the crap for the baptism :) the 4 investigators we have here with baptismal dates are all going well, even bianca whose mother wouldnt sign the form. she is going to come to church next week. as well, we got the mother of another investigator (rosa) to church yesterday. alls going well.
and yes, i like my companion. he is really not talkative, but we get along well and everything :) after seeing all the losers in this ward, the 24 year old dudes that live at home, dont have a job and are currently "filling out their papers", a job which has been taking 5 years, ive decided its the life for me. ill just stay in my room until the rentals (mom and dad) kick da bucket. like a cockroach, you cant get rid of me...im only have joking, who knows. ill tell you in 5 years.
so about my foot. i messed up the metatarsal bones, but i havent gone to the doctor yet. ima give it another week and if i still cant walk on it ill see what the doc says. im not sure what the deal is, but its possible it could be broken, its swollen on one side, it hurts in the same spot when i bend it or my toes, etc. ill let you know next week what the dealio is.
ps gina, not that i will deny the title of the bigger nerd, but why do you think i deserve it? im sure there were 2 participants in our nerdy activites. as long as you are still getting plenty of offers from girls for me, i dont care how big of a nerd they think i is.
